Focus on Debt Without Becoming Overwhelmed

I’m sure that there’s been some research done somewhere about why most of us avoid things that we perceive as difficult. It probably goes back to some primal survival instinct.  Avoidance, in fact, does the opposite–it screws things up even more. That’s true whether the topic is relationship issues, taxes or your debt.

Coors Credit Union recently added a service called Debt in Focus  that helps you sort through what you think will be a mess and make sense out of it. Oh, and it only takes about 5 minutes. Yeah, really.

It’s a simple program that walks you through the basic questions. You will need information such as amount of debt and interest rate plus your income information (we all usually have that one in our head.)

You can save your information, but don’t worry it’s completely secure and doesn’t ask for things like social security number. Once the information is entered it will give you an assessment with a strategy. Next time you log in you can update the information to get an updated strategy. It’s rather mindless actually. Just follow the steps and you are on your way to reducing your debt. This is especially nice if you’re the anonymous type and don’t want talk to anyone about your debt.

Here’s an image of what the Debt in Focus report looks like.
